Get Ready World!
June 24, 2008
The future site of Foggy Bridge Winery is in (okay, arguably) one of the most stunning locations in the world.
Yes, most wineries stake this claim, and yes, most wineries are surrounded by picturesque vineyards, nestled in valleys or perched on hillsides in some of the finest regions in the world. After all, isn’t that a major reason why we all love wine?
Foggy Bridge is a part of San Francisco itself, on the “front porch” of the Presidio, as they call it, and on the northwest corner of Crissy Field, SF’s first airplane landing strip during WW1. I’m afraid General Dana Crissy would roll over in his grave if he knew a 1920s airplane hangar building and an Army machine shop are being renovated as an urban winery on the banks of the Bay and in walking distance of our city’s beloved Golden Gate Bridge. But I bet he would approve.
Yes, the location is truly stunning. But as I write this, I am sitting in our one room Presidio “office” which very closely resembles a small college dorm room looking out over the preschool playground below. Not nearly as glamorous as what we hope you will experience at the real Foggy Bridge, but right now, this is where it all happens. We—Joyce, Daryl, John and I—gather here to brainstorm what locals want to experience at Foggy Bridge. We will all post to this blog from time to time because we think you should get to know each of us. We’ll share our progress. We ask you to feed us ideas, tell your friends about us and get excited about another great San Francisco experience!
